Volkswagen has today released the first images of the new Passat Alltrack, which is making its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next week, ahead of its introduction to the market in early 2012.

Volkswagen has been honoured with two class victories in What Car? magazine’s Used Car of the Year 2011 awards. The 2006 Passat Estate claimed a win in the Estate car category, while the 2009 Golf TDI was crowned with the best Green used car accolade.

Volkswagen has given a demonstration of its impressive pulling power by claiming two category wins and the overall title at the Towcar Awards 2011. These are judged by experts from What Car? and Practical Caravan magazines as well as The Camping and Caravanning Club.

A standard production Passat BlueMotion entered the record books in October 2010 after covering a distance of 1,527.63 miles on a single tank of fuel, achieving an average 89.83 mpg. Not wanting to rest on the laurels of the previous generation, Volkswagen has now added a BlueMotion model to the seventh-generation Passat range which is even more efficient. Prices start at £19,875 for the saloon and rise to £21,180 for the Estate.

It’s an advertising campaign which needs little explanation: a young boy, dressed as Darth Vader, attempts to use ‘the force’ to bring to life everyday objects from around the house and garden. The force does not seem strong with this one… until a timely intervention by his father via the Volkswagen Passat’s remote key fob occurs. The lights flash, the doors lock – and faith is revived in the young one’s Jedi powers.

Volkswagen’s most fuel-efficient production Passat to date has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The new Passat BlueMotion has a combined consumption of 67.3 mpg for the saloon, while CO2 emissions are expected to be just 109 g/km (114 g/km for Passat Estate)*.
